Why we're gathering
More than 100 people die on American roads every day. Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 has spent more than twenty-five years trying to change that number - the yard signs, the school campaigns, the pledges, the plain and stubborn ask to slow down in the neighborhoods where kids play. But the work that brought us here is what they do for the families who got the phone call anyway.
Every September, runners take the names of people killed in traffic incidents up Pikes Peak - printed on their shirts, carried 14,115 feet up a mountain. The families come too. They meet the runner carrying their person's name. They tell the stories. And for one weekend they are in a room where nobody needs the situation explained to them. This year is the 19th.

That's what the money does. The Party is three weeks before they travel, so what happens in this room on August 29 shows up in Colorado Springs in September.
